Where does the name Blue Note Junction come from?
The name Blue Note Junction honors Burton Street’s rich history and the legacy of Edward W. Pearson, known as the “Black Mayor of West Asheville.”
Pearson helped shape Burton Street into a center of Black entrepreneurship, agriculture, civic life, and community pride. His work helped create a strong foundation for neighborhood resilience, leadership, and self-determination.
Today, Blue Note Junction carries that legacy forward.
The “Blue Note” honors the cultural memory of Pearson’s Blue Note Casino, while “Junction” speaks to what this new space is becoming: a meeting place for people, ideas, wellness, business, food, art, culture, and opportunity.
Blue Note Junction is more than a name. It is a bridge between Burton Street’s past and its future.
